Default Rattling noise at start up?

When I first start my truck up in the morning it makes ratling noise. It sounds like its coming from the engine. It only last a few seconds and then it quits. Its a 2004 5.4. Thanks in advance for any replys.

Are you comfortable doing top end work?

x2 on gator's reply. Also your timing chain tensioner(s) could be leaking now. Not the worst thing, but not awesome either. My truck does this. Eventually I got to do the work.

If I read that tsb correctly its for engines with a build date later than 4/18/05 and my truck is an 04 but I may have read it wrong. Ill raise the hood and try to get back around to pin point the noise in the morning after I start it.

It's the opposite, it says to compare yours to one that was built after that date (when it was fixed).
