4x4 question. not iwe related.
This past winter I had to pull someone out in 4low. After, it didn't want to go back into 2hi. Finally did and all was well. A few weeks later went through car wash on a nice but very cold day. The next day I tried to put it in 4x4 but nothing happened. Figured something got wet and froze during car wash. Once it warmed up I tried again and still nothing. Haven't got around to fixing, then yesterday truck ran fine. Got home. Very hard rain for half hour or so. Went to leave and truck was in 4lo. Dash switch in 2hi. Dash light said 4lo and truck definitely was in 4lo. replaced both iwes, solenoid under hood, and check valve last year. It's an 04 lariat screw if that matters. Thanks in advance for any help on this one.

Yes. Tried everything. Problem is I didn't put it in 4 thus time. Parked it in 2wd. next time I started it was in 4 lo. The **** was still in 2hi. I guessing it's an electrical problem. Something shorting somewhere. Just have no idea where to look. At home with the kids today so haven't been able to go look.

Yeah that's pretty funky. I'll do a bit of research on the electric diagram for it in a bit and let you know if I are something that could cause that.

I would say your 4X4 selector switch is bad

Find a 30 amp fuse fir the 4x4 blown. Replaced it, still no luck. Proceeded to check the fuse box under the hood and it was full of water and one of the relays melted and also melted the female side of it. Somehow this put me in 4 low. Now with the melted relay can't get it out. Dealer said I have to buy the entire wiring harness to get the fuse box. No junkyard has a late model f150. Don't know what I'm gonna do.

I don't have a diagram in front of me, so someone with more knowledge correct me if I'm wrong. It sound like the relay is stuck with an open connection. If the fuse block has to be replaced anyway, disconnect your battery and pry that relay out. Hopefully that will tell the transfer case solenoid to return to default (2wd). Not a permanent solution, but at least you'll be able to tote the kids around.
