When I first start my truck and pull forward, it sort of bogs down, or lurches for a second...

it only happens first thing in the morning - it's fine after that, and I can't replicate the issue except the first time i drive in the morning...

no check engine light or anything like that...

Any ideas?

Mine does it too. Been doing it for years now. I think its the initial boost of the transmission fluid getting moving.

Completely normal. On a cold start, your engine will idle higher in park until the engine temp climbs a bit, as it fights with some increased friction and power draw. As soon as you shift into drive, it will drop to normal idling rpm but it takes a second, so you will feel a lurch as the throttle makes its way down. Pretty easy to verify this - next cold start, jot down your rpm before shifting into drive. After it is warmed up, compare it to your rpm in park at that point.

It's not like that - the truck does it's normal high rev when first started, then I put it in drive, and move forward. For a second or two, while I'm driving, it will 'surge', and then act like it's loosing gas...like a lawnmower when you're near the end of the tank - then it's fine, and won't do it again for the rest of the day.

Clean your throttle body and MAF. You might have some deposits on the butterfly valve which takes a second to smooth out. Also look at your FPDM underneath your spare tire on the frame rail. Remove it and look for corrosion.

I think it was the fuel filter. It looked like it had never been changed, and leaked all sorts of nasty stuff out when I got it off - and now it runs great!

My 96 toyota truck did this. It was the maf. It took a few cleanings to get over it. But that is exactly what your description was. Only in the am. First thing then bam fine for the rest of the day. And only for a few seconds when I first accelerated.

fuel filter it was. After sitting over night or a expanded period of time it would have taken or stirred up some of that garbage and made it surge like that.
