Default Radio Unlock

I may have found an OEM nav radio for $100 or less. I still have yet to look at it, but the guy works for a dealership and when they sold a truck the buyer wanted a different stereo so they swapped and this guy apparently ended up with it. He says it absolutely wont show up as stolen. So on to the questions what year did they start locking them with an anti theft code? What does a dealer charge to get the unlock code? Is there anywhere else to safely get the codes? Lastly he doesn't know what year it came out of. Will the newer models plug and play? I don't want to have to spend all the time to rewire it.

LOL one more question. I have satellite radio already. Will I need a different antenna for the nav? Is there a subscription for nav? A software disc? Thanks in advance!

The factory NAV units that were used in 2005 to 2008 (no factory NAV in 2004) were made by Pioneer (AVIC D1/D2). They were all plug and play, and do not require any sort of unlock. They will require a navagation antenna, which can be purchased from eBay fro about 20 to 40 bucks. Place the antenna right below the center dash package tray (underneath it).

As to Sirius, the 2007 and 2008 Nav units had it, and this may have to be enabled it it is not already.

Because these were made by Pioneer, they have many features that were not enabled as "Ford factory" options, and there are radio repair shops that will enable these features for a fee. Google pioneer GPS repair if you need or want this service.

The only thing that might bug you is the display screen when the radio is off, or powered on initially; the screen may show "Ford", "Lincoln", or "Mercury", depending on what donor vehicle it comes from. This too can be flashed by one of those repair shops if it bothers you.

I did notice that. There appear to be some cheaper ones out of mountaineers, explorers, and focus' on ebay. They look like the same model from the trucks but they all say they wont fit and appear to be missing one of slots to plug in on the back. Most for our trucks that I've seen have 4 pinned slots while these only have 3. Im still researching but there doesn't appear to be very much info out there on this subject. Your the most and best information Ive found anywhere so far. Thanks!

Such as this one. It looks like all of them Ive seen for our trucks but it says it wont fit. Also again only 3 pinned slots in the back but I believe our trucks have 4 which worries me because I have all the options with my truck and don't want to lose any of those features. I really need to pull mine and see what all is hooked up in the back.
