I'll take my milled block of solid steel over the pipe with some donut rings welded on each end any day of the week.

Agreed that the construction of aluminum spacers appear more stable that steel, and that there are cases to be made for each. It is surprising though that many opt for plastic over both, especially when the plastic comes at an even higher premium.
