Exclamation Questions about true dual exhaust...

I'm in the market to upgrade my exhaust system on my 2007 Lariat 5.4L. I had a 2004 XLT 4.6L & installed a dual performance exhaust system with what I think is called SI/DO with 1 muffler & it sounded awesome. I was thinking about installing a true dual performance exhaust system on my 07 truck with 2 mufflers but I have some questions. First what is the biggest differance between true dual & si/do exhaust?? Second, with my truck being all stock, except for the aftermarket air filter, will a true dual exhaust system have any negative or positive effect on the performance of my engine, example..horsepower, torque, or mpg?? I know only a few things about exhaust but not much. Please help!

True duals have two pipes coming from the motor to wherever you exit them. SI/DO has one pipe that splits into two. You will gain performance wise but it really depends on what mufflers you go with and whether you use an X or H pipe to connect the two pipes.

Question

I would be using 2 AERO performance mufflers. Had AERO on my last truck & I was very happy with the results. Is there a differance between an H or X pipe & why do I need that? Again I really don't know a whole lot about exhaust systems.

I ran pipes straight off my cats to seperate mufflers, them out the rear. No X or H pipe at all. I noticed more throttle response and middle to high end preformance. Dont get me wrong, its definately not a dog at low end.
