Question For Owners Of 08 F-150 XLT 5.4L Super Cab 4x4 With Automatic Transmission
How has your ownership experience been with this truck. Good? Bad? Money pit? Any regrets? Would you buy another one? Thanks.

I dont own the specific truck you're asking about, but the advise is universal. Get a good history report on the vehicle, do a thorough used car inspection, take it to a reputable mechanic if you're not so inclined, and maintain it. These trucks have some known issues, so make sure you addresses them. Otherwise, assuming it checks out, just up keep and enjoy. Usually, the experience will depend on how the truck was previously maintained.

I know the maintenance history and service records for the truck. It's a family member vehicle.(Father) He purchased the truck brand new off of a Ford dealership showroom floor. It currently has 37,000 original babied miles. I've driven it several times since new, including the day he bought it and everything is still as new. What I was wondering is what kind of longevity are folks getting with the 5.4L 3V engine and transmission in these vehicles, before experiencing some sort of major failure. I know many(probably too many)common problems with these trucks, but are folks who are members on this website, getting at least 100,000 relatively trouble free miles if properly maintained, or have they experienced costly repairs with either one sooner. Looking for good or bad honest feedback from current or previous owners of similar year trucks that wouldn't mind to share. Thanks.

engine is great but tranny blew up at 100,000 babied miles. rebuilt tranny then blew again 9 months later
tune up the tranny and change spark plugs at or before the Ford recommendation.

08 is tricky. What was the engine build date? The engines changed in late 07 and some of the 08s still had the old engines.

I think these trucks get a bad rap. Yes, there are failures....but all in all, they're great. Just have to be properly maintained. I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Also, I love the styling of these trucks, they're beautiful.
