Who did you talk to? A service writer!
It sounds like rollingthunder knows better.

its no problem at all to change the cluster out its just a few screws and two plugs and you can buy a used one for around $100. but i did try an xlt cluster from a newer model truck and my ac still didnt work so i took the lariat out and put my original back in and it works fine now. i priced a brand new fx4 cluster for my truck and it was over $300 at the dealer but they are on backorder so im back to looking for junk yards.

Call "You pull it"(60th south of Q) and see if they have a cluster out of a XLT. The milage is the only thing that will be off. If they don't they can probably get one.

Call Woodhouse(or other stealer) and see how much they charge to calibrate the odometer for a new cluster.

Also the way I would do it, if it were me, is buy a grypon....... Not only do you get a tach but you get loads of other goodies too...

take a look at my truck build up link, read through it and search my posts, i have alot of informitive write ups and how toos, all my mods i have done is under 4500, and i have gone with alot of the best stuff i could get for most of it...and i have a pretty lenghty mod list for just a bpu truck...with alot of ideas left

i have done a write up on installing the autometer z series (perfict match to our factory guages) and would be able to talk you through it, its that easy...
