Default Question for all the lifted trucks out there

Hello all,

Before I start with my question, here is my current set up:

2006 F150 XLT 5.4
6" RCX lift
18x9 ATX Artillery
35x12.50x18 Nitto Trail Grappler
17" factory spare w/ factory tire size (not sure what size they are)

Ok, I'm afraid that I'll get a flat and be stranded because I'm sure my factory 17" wont be safe to ride on OR even fit with the lift kit. And I'm having a hard time finding ONE 35" tire that will fit a 18" rim and ONE 18" rim in my budget.

But I did find a use 325x65x17 tire w/ 17x8.5 rims for a decent price.

My question is: If I get a flat, can I use the 325x65x17 as a spare for a few miles without damaging anything while my 35x1250x18 gets repaired? Basically, would running one 17" tires with 8.5" wide rims with 3 18" tires with 9" rims be safe for a few miles?

Thanks for your time.

do you have a limited slip? if so that's too much of a difference IMO to run on the back and the spare won't fit on the front because RCX requires 4.5 " of backspacing... I actually called them and they said the factory backspacing on the 17 inch rims will cause the rim to contact the steering knuckle.

obviously, Ideally, you would wan the exact same tire and rim for a spare but that gets pricey. at minimum, I would look for a 35" diameter tire for your factory spare. you could run it on the rear (kind of a pain if you get a flat on the front but you can swap one from the rear to the front). the width of the tire or rim, diameter of the rim, and the backspacing being different aren't going to be a huge deal so long as they don't rub any where.

another thing is, if you were looking for a spare that was identical in size that's not the nitto trail grabber, you're gonna have a hard time... it may list the size as 35x12.5x18 but it's actually 35x13.39x18.

I'm not sure if it has limited slip, but if someone can chime in and let me know, that would be great. It's a 2006 f150 xlt 4x4 5.4 v8.

So the set that I found on Craig List is 325x65x17 tires with 17x8.5 rims with -12 offset, will this be ok to run as a spare? Just for a few miles while my 18" tire is being repaired.

*I'm currently running 35x1250x18 tires with 18x9 rims with -12 offset.

You need your diff code which is on the decal inside your drivers door. That can be decoded to tell you exactly what you have.

However, just always put the spare on the front and the issue is solved. If you get a flat on the back you swap wheels around so a full size goes back to the rear and the spare goes on the front.

How often do you get a flat that you have to go through the hassel?

if you look at your door sticker you can tell if you have limited slip or not, if you have limited slip (B6 or H9) that's too much of a difference in diameter

Luckily I haven't gotten a flat since I lifted my truck over 2+ years ago, knock on wood! Just trying to cover my a** in case it does happen. I guess I'll go ahead and pull the trigger on this buy.

Thanks for all your help.

I have b6. so it wont fit/work in the rear right?

Lets say I have a flat in the rear, I switch my flat one with one of the good tires up front, so that both my rears are matching and I put my 35x1250x17 spare up front (what Dirttracker18 said) will that work?

"IF" my math is correct -12mm of offset should be 4" of back spacing. and you need at max 4.5" with the RXC lift to clear the steering knuckles so that should work in a pinch.

Just did some research, a 17x8.5 rim with a -12 offset is a 4.25 BS, this will work right?
