Oil has been changed religiously at dealership with Motorcraft oil and filter and I am not getting any ticking or knocking or oil consumption. As I stated, a smoke test was done today and no leaks were found. I thought it was a vacuum leak as well but apparently it isn't. One weird thing is that the last few weeks it's been throwing a p0174 and this week it started throwing a p0175. Any other thoughts?

pos of cams are everything when it comes to fuel trims fuel trims control how much fuel to add or take fuel. if the pcm tells the vct to position the cam in one spot and the pcm thinks its there it will add or subtract fuel but since the phaser doesnt work your timing is off on the particular bank allowing allowing too much ret/adv throwing off your air to fuel mixture. eventually you will get a driveability code once the knock sensors detect the engine is running like crap

could be a vct solenoid, ckp, cmp, harness, pcm, phaser.... nine times out of ten w/ the same situation as what youre telling me w/ your symptoms its a phaser. i replaced mine 3,000 miles ago due to a p0345, p0349, and a p0174, p0171. i had both banks lean codes and two driveability codes i put chain guides, tensoiners, and phasers on mine and problem solved.

the p0175 is just a bank 2 rich code. vs the p0174 bank 2 lean code. still putting my money on a phaser. ive been wrong before expecialy with a vehicle not being in front of me but i would have to say its a phaser and its usually the drivers side that goes first.

I think I am going to pick the truck up in the morning and take it to the local Ford dealer and get their opinion before I throw money at unnecessary repairs or parts. We have a good dealer here and they have treated me well in the past. It seems that there are too many things that can contribute to these codes.

The truck has 124k miles and is running great. I have noticed a few times in the mornings that it will idle fine for a few minutes but when I come to a stop the idle will seem a little low but not terribly bad.

In the last 3 months I have had new plugs put in, the throttle body has been cleaned and the o-ring underneath it replaced, the MAF has been replaced (Firestone thought this was the issue but I disagreed), the fuel injectors have been cleaned, the #8 coil & injector were replaced due to a P0308 code, the FPDM has been replaced and now I am at a loss. I don't use oiled filters and just replaced the paper air filter. I got to looking around this evening thinking that the only thing left is a vacuum leak and I found what appears to be a vacuum hose that runs from the passenger side just to the left of the throttle body and runs around the back side of the intake and then connects to a part that is fixed to the firewall just behind and to the left of the brake booster. The pictures below show the hose that I am referring to. (I am not talking about the hose that connects to the side of the air intake/throttle body). The reason I am concerned with this hose is because it is very dry and coarse and when I felt around it my fingers were extremely black. What is this hose called and could it possibly be my problem? Also, how hard is it to replace and do I also need to replace the fittings that connect this hose to the intake and the part on the firewall? What would you call those fittings? Are there any other hoses that could also be the root of my problem?

Thanks for any assistance with this. The truck is running good but I am getting tired of the CEL coming on every few days but I know that vacuum leaks can be hard to track down.

I kept throwing the 174 code... the line that u took a pic of earlier... change that line. I had the same thing where my hands would be dark black after touching that line because the line is deteriorating ... it is actually fuel line used as vacuum line. It doesn't handle the heat from the engine bay very well. I know u said u they ran a smoke test and that isn't the problem. That doesn't mean it won't be later though. That line was the cause for my lean codes in bank one and two. I changed that line and my fuel filter and haven't had any codes since.

Simple to change. They sell the fuel line at any auto store(I went to advanced auto) I think it cost me about 4 bucks. The clips at the ends of the hose are simple to remove... just push the little button on the clip and remove the whole hose, clips and all. Then its easier to get the clips off the hose and onto ur new hose... then just push the new hose on and put it all back where it came from. Good luck...
