purge canister solenoid hssing
I had my check engine light come on the other day. I went to autozone and they put it on the computer reader and it came back with rich/lean on one bank and gave four or five reasons for this. I wasn't satisfied so I went to o'rielly's to see if I could get more info. The man there opened the hood and noticed a hissing sound coming from what he called the purge valve canister? does anyone know about these and will it cause this problem? How do u change this?

I noticed that the line running from the purge solenoid to the manifold was starting to dry rot on my truck. I just cut the connectors off with a razor knife and put a new piece of rubber fuel line on the connectors.
Yes if the solenoid sticks it can cause rich/lean conditions. You can unhook the line going to the manifold and plug it so you don't have a vacuum leak, then see if it throws a code again.

canister purge wiring
My '88 with the 4.9 engine has a canister purge solenoid. The Hayne's manual shows it hooked to pin 31 of the ECM. My solenoid has no wires, and there's no opening for a pin 31 on the pin block. So is my truck supposed to have this wired up or not? Any help appreciated.
