Puddle Light Write-up & Install
I have a 2006 F150 Super Cab. I thought it might be cool to add some puddle lights so I purchased these from Amazon for like $13.
You will need:
Wire Strippers
Flat Head Screw driver
Drill
Terminal Connectors
Terminal End For around a Bolt
Electrical Tape
Some Zip Ties
Socket-Ratchet Set
Pliers
I wired the lights so they will come on whenever the dome lights come on (doors open).
It is always a good idea to remove the negative battery terminal cable before beginning any work.
I started by removing the door panel.
Remove the bolts on the bottom of the door panel.
Remove the door speaker cover with a flat head screwdriver.
Use a flat head to pop the cover by window switches off.
Un-clip all the power window, lock, and mirror switch.
Remove the clip from behind the door handle.
The two revealed bolts need to be removed.
Use the flat head again to remove the bezel around the door handle.
Un-bolt and Un-clip the speakers.
Remove the rubber piece on the underside of the door speaker hole.
Once the speakers are removed you will find four yellow pieces.
They must be removed. I used a flat head and pliers (a big pain to remove these.)
Pull up on the door panel and push the door handle through the opening.
Drill a hole, using the supplied drill bit, in the bottom of the door panel. I drilled right behind the groove for the last bolt in the door panel.
I had to sand a little more because the light did not want to fit through.
Next remove the two plastic covers from around the hood release.
Cut the black/baby blue wire from the harness and use connectors.
On the end going to the harness I twisted together the original wire as well as a new one to run to the puddle light. On the other end, I wired that wire and another wire to lead off to the passenger side (make sure it is long enough to reach under the whole dash and into the passenger door panel). Then connect all four wires together with the male and female connectors as seen in the picture with blue connectors.
Unbolt the ground from under the hood release. Use a piece of wire with an end on it and bolt it under the ground bolt. Run the other end to the negative on the puddle light ground. Make sure to include a wire for the passengers side ground.
Leave the wires for the passenger’s side hang for now.
I ran the drivers side wires through a hole in the plastic that I cut and ran the wires out the right side of the plastic.
I could not fit the wires through the rubber tube where the rest went unfortunately so I just ran them from the door panel to where the other end is wired.
Connect the wires to the power and ground on the puddle lights. You may have to re-connect the battery ground but make sure the light is facing the way you want it.
Re-install the door panel, and the covers for around the hood release.
I used zip ties to keep the wires up that ran to the passenger’s side.
I also un-clipped the middle piece on the floor to easier slide the wires through.
Repeat the procedure on the passenger’s side. Be sure to keep the positive and negative straight.
I hope this helped anyone with this. It is pretty simple. Everything you need can be gotten at your local hardware store and the overall mod was less than $20.
If I forgot anything or you have any ideas, input, or questions, just let me know. Thanks.

All Finished.
The first two are with the flash on.
Third is without the flash.
They do not show during the day light hours.
Here is the URL for the puddle lights off of Amazon:

Thanks for the writeup, I had to go and order a set off of eBay. Now if the truck I ordered would just hurry up and get here.

Dome light wire
Hello, thanks for the write up, I used this info to hook up the mirror puddle lights that came on new power fold mirror I got. However they hardly turn on. I know I got the right wire as I used a test light and found the black blue wire that worked with the interior light switch. I am just wondering if perhaps this wire is really not a full 12v. I can tell the puddle lamp turns on but it is very dim and basically pointless.
Does this wire control a signal that goes to a relay somewhere?
Any other pointers or ideas on what I may have done wrong! Thanks in advance!
