Default Programmer Brand Reviews

Okay so I've done my homework on programmers, and I know what I want to use it for..Now I want people's opinions on the programmer they have.

This is not a "what is a programmer?" or "canned vs. custom tunes" thread, I just want to know what brands people have, what kind of tunes they run, and the pro's and con's they've noticed with the programmer they're running..

Right now, I've narrowed it down to an Edge Evolution, Hypertech, or a Superchips Programmer, and I only plan on running the canned tunes..

I've read reviews on all them but I want honest opinions from experience..

If you could list Year, Engine, Mods, Programmer Brand, Average MPG and some pro's and con's I'd really appreciate it!

I also think a thread like this will be really helpful to a lot of other people because I know the Programmer topic gets beat to death. Posting a list like this may help a lot!

Thanks in advance!

I've been using SCT X2 and X3's for years now and have different tunes loaded on all 3 of my cars. ( F150 was 93 so never did it as would needed a flip chip for it and not worth it for the L6 engine )

I have a 87 octane MPG savings from VMP on my wife's 01 Sable and that increases the mpg by about 1 to 2 steady mpg, aside from that, not much different.

Have a 87 performance tune on my 04 V6 Mustang which is auto so it shifts cleaner and quicker then before and I raised the shift points so i could hear the flowmaster exhaust a bit better.

And then I have a variety of tunes for my built 06 GT, all 93 performance, race, street and it will drastically affect how the car runs. Like the 93 Race tune I will run at the track but not on the street as I will not even trying, chirp the drag radial tires almost EVERY shift which gets old real fast esp if there is a cop in the area. lol 93 Performance works well for street duty.

Just bear in mind that regardless of which tuner you get, the tuner is simple the method of HOW a tune is uploaded to your truck/car. How well that truck/car runs is depending entirely on who WROTE the tune.

Let me know if that makes sense, I can try to clarify if needed.

Dude SCT is going to give you the best bang for your buck. It has more HP gains then the others with only .5 less if a gain in MPGs. It was dyno tested here in San Antonio against the super chip, and won hands down. SCT all the way

I was looking at SCT, but it was saying its not C.A.R.B. certified so that raised a red flag

SCT, they specialize in Fords. My 07 King Ranch 4x4 was really opened up with a custom 93 tune from Dynospeed in Memphis.

It isn't one u listed, but the diablosport predator has canned tunes for cai, so if u plan on a cai, it is great. I run the k&n cai 87 octane tune. Average 16 mpg in mixed driving. See sig for mods.

I saw the Diablo too but I've never even heard of them until hearing about a couple people running them on their trucks on this forum, that's the only reason I looked into them..Here is what I've got done to my truck:

Gotts Mod
Flowmaster 40 Series 3" si/so
2" Tuff Country Level
295/70R17 Cooper STT's on stock 17's

I just wanna wake up my truck a bit, and get firmer shifts to aid in turning the 34" tires..I was averaging between 14-15mpg before the tires so I'd like to get a programmer that will help keep the mpg's up a bit too

Any suggestions?

I ran a Superships cortex. loved it!, ran the 87 octane tune, but raised shift pionts slightly and deffinatly made the tranny work better and the engine as well. picked up constant 1-2 mpgs as well. if i ran the economy tune mpg 1-2. worked well, would buy another.

Any that u decide will be good to get corrected speedometer and get your shift points back in line. That was the main benefit I noticed. U may get a little mileage back, but I wouldn't count on it being significant.
