most of the time the odometer light on my truck doesnt work... then all of the sudden it will come on and work again for a little bit. does anyone else have a problem like this?

Its probably the bulb about ready to blow out. There have been a couple of people (not many) on here in our range trucks that have had that problem.

Unfortunately I do not. I thought there were a couple of screws that hold the black plastic around the cluster. Not the case. Send Bucko a PM... He recently swapped out clusters and could easily recall how difficult it was or wasn't.

Here is a link with a with removal instructions and pictures from the maint. man. This should be accurate for 04-08 models.

But here it is in a nut shell:

First unplug the battery for 10 min to disable the air bags. After that, just remove the two screws right above the gas and brake pedal and pop off the knee bolster. Then remove the two screws where the top of the knee bolster pops in. Grab the top of the plastic around the instrument cluster and work it out gently. It is just held in with clips. This will expose the cluster. It is held in by 4 screws. Remove them and unplug it from the truck (two plugs from the top), unclip the PRND21 (if a column shift) switch and pull it out. Flip it over and figure out which bulb is blown and replace it by twisting it out.

Haven't tried this myself yet, but others say it works.

Not going to do you any good.The bulb is a very very small and soldered to the circuit board. If you can pull it yourself, you can try to find a speedometer shop to solder in a new one. Im a damn fine solderer (is that word?) and I screwed up a cluster on an Aztek trying to replace the same bulb.

I just changed my bulb a month ago and mine was easy to do just fallow those directions took me maybe 10 mins.

Not true for the 04 to 08 clusters!!! Do the instructions already provided above, but keep in mind the bulb used for the odometer/display panel uses a slightly larger filiment bulb then the rest of the cluster bulbs. This is so when the parking lights are off, the bulb is brighter to light up the display during daylight. If you use the wrong bulb, it will bee very dim in daylight. Get the bulb from your dealer parts department. They all have a "twist out", twist in" to remove.

Sorry, I made an assumption I guess I shouldnt have. Most newer vehicles that I have dealt with have them soldered in. The newer Chevys have all of the back lightning bulbs soldered in.
