Default Power gain with exhaust?

Does anyone have an idea of what the power gain would be with a cat back 3 in exhaust for an 2007 5.4 F150?

Truthfully, not much. Cat backs can gain a little, but if you're doing it only for power you'll be disappointed. On the dyno we see 5-10hp gain with a 3" on the 5.4L, but these gains are mostly in the +3000 rpm range and are hard to be felt on a heavy truck.

When I was into building cars I would always tell it like this to people asking the same question.

You put huge exhaust pipes on a vehicle and do not increase the amount of air going into the motor you will lose some back pressure. This isn't going to make anything go faster but this is also considering you changed manifolds to header and did a header back exhaust.

If you put a cat-back you're biggest increase is coming from the more opened muffler becuse the piping between the motor and beginning of cat-back didn't change so there really isn't much difference at all.

What you are doing when putting an exhaust on is helping your vehicle for future mods.

You can't increase the air to the motor without increasing the air coming out or you will not see as much of a gain.

So, basically, an exhaust helps you when modding your motor, but not really a performance mod entirely on it's own.

That make sense?

Ok ya it makes sense and thanks. Just don't feel like spending 500 bucks if I really won't notice it.

What system is 500? Exhaust is mainly for the sound without extensive mods.

my 2004 5.4L had 4 cats. i took two off, since 2 is good enough. then with the 3" pipe the rest of the way i have fantastic highway mileage and more top end accelleration

My Roush exhaust was pretty expensive.

I'm going to have to check the manufacture again to be sure but the parts store gave me a quote on a 3 in cat back exhaust for 500 bucks. And I only have 2 cats since I have an 07.

I just bought the muffler and tip and had local shop weld in the three inch piping. Cheaper route with similar results.
