Default Powdercoating factory step bars - disassembly question

I'd like some N-fab steps but for now some pc over my chrome ones will do. Does anybody know how the plastic step areas are attached to the factory tubes? I assume they are just clipped on and with enough pulling they will come off but I don't want to break any clips in the process. Somebody must have seen one off for some reason or another. I guess I could pull an end cap for a look.

aren't there two screws on each plastic piece that go into the tube itself? I never looked, but want to say that they were allen screws.

I could be wrong....probably am.
