What's the correct rear crankshaft seal for my 05 pickup?
Hello fellow Ford drivers,
Have to change crankshaft rear main seal on my 2005 XLT 4.6L V8 2WD. I've been doing some research on this seal but the more research I do the more confusing it gets! So now I'm totally unsure which is the correct seal for my pickup!
eBay says Felpro BS 40644 fits but it also says Felpro BS 40620 firs, Amazon description says it can't confirm if it will fit my vehicle, old workshop manual I have says I need a seal 6701 and also an oil slinger 6310....I'm totally lost at this point.
Is there anyone who has accurate info that can point me in the right direction so I can purchase the right part/s the first time?
I really appreciate any help at all!
Thanks in advance!
Btw I can respond with screenshots of what eBay etc say will work, if you guys need that to see what they are saying are the right ones for my truck.

Both of those are supposed to fit, they are just different materials. The one ending in 44 is rubber with Teflon (this would be the more "heavy duty or premium" option and the other one ending in 20 just says rubber material.
there are also several other good brands for this part, victor-reinz, timken, just to name a couple.

I would go for the more expensive seal because it has the sleeve that aids during installation.
as for the slinger as I understand it goes on the outside and is .more of a dust shield than a slinger. They don't all actually have one from what I've read. If yours does it sounds like you can just reuse it or discard it. In my opinion be it sounds like it would be more useful on a manual trans car to keep our clutch dust from getting to the seal.
