Default Post oil change procedure?

Is there a specific procedure to changing our oil to minimize potential damage to the engine after an oil change? I'm asking due to a severe noise in the motor for a few seconds after the change is done. I'm assuming it's due to low oil pressure from having an empty oil filter. Is there a way to prime the system before running it?

That's what I do. Fill it about 2/3 full and then install it quickly to minimize leakage/mess. Mine starts silently. Your timing chains and guides may be getting worn.

How are you filling your filter 2/3 and then tipping it sideways to get it in position to install.

I guess so.... I been changing my oil for 5 years now every 5K and can't seem to get my filter out or in without tipping it... am I missing something ?? Seems like if I fill the new filter half way and then tip it to install it would run all over the place... I really don't see the need to prime the oil filter...I have never heard a noise after oil change...I'm sure the dealer don't prime their filters...

You can hold the throttle wide open when cranking. That will disengage the injectors and allow the oil pump to build up some pressure and push oil through the filter and engine.

And that's what I was wondering. Or maybe there's a fuse I could pull that would allow the engine to crank/prime but not fire? I also read in a thread (can't find it now) about turning the key on 3-4 times before starting, and that might prime everything?

What oil are you using? I don't hear noises when I start after an oil change. I use wix filters and Pennzoil ultra, generally oil on the rubber o-ring and threads. Generally I mix 5w30 & 10w30, 3 5w30, and 4 10w30.
