Default possible tensioners?

Ok where do I start???
Just replaced my cam phasers, tensioners, guides and chains. Truck ran like new for two days , tried city driving and a short highway run and even hauled a 3000 lb trailer. Well went on a short highway run today(not sure if that's relevant) and when I got home I went to back in the Driveway and she started to misfire. I let it go till I got a code and it was a p0022. I reset ecm and when I went to restart the truck I had the chain rattling sound at start up and then went away. Turned it off and tried a couple of hours later and the rattle was there again and sounds like a slight tick now when running. I also just did an oil change with a motorcraft oil filter and 5-20 oil so I felt golden for about 48 hrs . Any ideas anyone, going to take it apart again I think this weekend and check tensioners and guides.possibly bad tensioner?

I talked to an engine specialist today and he recommended that I unplug my vct solenoids and see what happens , figuring it shouldn't go into what they call the death rattle, shaking and misfiring. Well it did which left him stumped, his suggestion is to use thicker oil like 10/30. It is so weird as it is intermittent only when coming to a stop or reversing(low idle stuff). Another possibility maybe is the screen in the oil pan is clogged up with the fibers from the guides waring out as the did. Well will try to keep you informed

It could be due to poor oil pressure still and if you have a lot of the fibres etc from the old guides in the sump, they could be making the oil pumps life hard! Can you do an oil pressure test at the heads?

I think you replaced the tensioners and if everything was torqued up it should be okay?

Just for laughs, try doing the ECU re-set deal, where you disconnect the battery, turn on the headlights to drain any residual power and then reconnect. Drive the truck normally for a few miles under different conditions.

It could also be a throttle body or related issue......although your think you hear the dreaded chain rattle etc as the truck it surging and misfiring, you will get a lot of uneven running and adjustment noise on the timing gear and ignition noise if the cylinders are not buring a good mixture.

Hope the timing stuff doesn't have to be checked again!!!

I would like to check the engine pressure at the top but not sure how. Going to do a borascope tonight and see if the screens are plugged in the oil pan. Maybe time to get a Chevy lol

I would drop the oil pan and check for black plastic bits clogging the pickup just like you said earlier. If its loaded with them then change the filter again. And re fill with cheap oil. Drive for a few hundred miles then change the oil 1 more time with a new filter. Make sure its the motorcraft filter and nothing else.
If the tick and rattle are still there after this then swap the solenoids.
Consider running 5w-30 instead for more quiet operation of the cam phasers.

Check this thread out for your solenoids and specs on the oiling system. I rebuilt a solenoid with a 6mm washer instead of buying a new one... It helped with the ticking a lot

I actually changed the oil to 10w-30 and so far so good , but I may be dropping the pan this weekend. Ok well it has been 3 days since i put the heavier oil in and so far so good I think i will take it on the highway and see how it goes!!!!!

Even the rattle at start up has not been back
