Poor performance and error codes after timing chain replacements
Hi Guys, My first post at this site. I posted this on another site too. I know some of you will see it there too. Hope this doesn't bother any of you.
2004 F150 5.4L 3v 173000 miles
I had my passenger side guide break apart and cause all kinds of rattling noise and poor performance. The plastic was getting in the way of the chain and made a lot of noise.
Before I knew the guides were bad I replaced both Cam Position sensors.
I tore into it and replaced both chains and all the guides. I did not change the phasers and I have since read at this site that I should not have been a cheapskate and that I should have done the phasers too.
I set the Phasers and crankshaft as the book says and as posted by experienced members.
It started right up but it runs very bad.
It idles low, shakes alot, and knocks really loud when accelerating. If you can call it accelerating.
I double checked all my connections and all look good.
The current codes it has are:
P0012
P0172
P0174
p2196
The p0012 was present before the repair, along with P0022, and p0345.
Please help.

pretty sure the p0172, p0174 and the p2196 are banks running too lean, did you reconnect your O2 sensors on both side? The p0012 is Bank 1 timing over retarded, check your cam position sensor a lot of times, the connector is not tight. Good luck, I am doing my phasers and timing components and valve train this weekend and hope that I don't run into any issues. Let us know how it goes and what the fix is.
