Default Poor gas mileage..suggestions please

I have a 2004 F150 xlt 5.4 and just started driving it around again in the last month (was deployed/usmc)..during that time my parents did drive it a bit..for some reason this thing is noticeably hogging up more gas than it used to..what do you suggest I should do first to improve my gas mileage....I don't even think the fuel injectors have ever been serviced...thank you for your suggestions, I very much appreciate it....let me know about after market products that work too.

Winter gas is known to cause lower MPGs... What are your MPGs now and before? Run some seafoam thru mid grade shell or cheveron gas. Then clean the throttle body. Check the MAF and air filter.... Swap the fuel filter out...

Welcome aboard, thanks for your service!

Yeah I recommend running seafoam or some fuel injector cleaners like LUCAS. You may also want to change some spark plugs or get a CAI or Gotts Mod intake. I served 15 months in Iraq so I know what its like to come home. Congrats and good luck with the truck. Happy Fordin!!

I'm not sure how long you were gone for or how often you truck was ran while you were gone... But regular fuel with ethanol breaks down really quick. ethanol is alchohol which kills the octane rating. I would wait til you run a couple good tanks through it. I would definatly replace the fuel filter like said above. and also winter gas is known to cause bad mpg.

Sea foam will work wonders to fix everything that is gummed up.

next time you go away for a long time, mix a half can of seafoam or startron into the tank and cruise around a bit. Startron works better with ethanol fuels than sea foam but both are a good cleaner/fuel stabilizer

::facepalm::

No, ethanol has a higher octane rating than normal gasoline. Ethanol is however much more susceptible to water.

OP: You likely need to put some dry gas and/or a fuel stabilizer in the tank if you haven't run that tank out yet. A bottle of fuel injector cleaner would probably not hurt, but don't expect miricles.

What kind of MPG are you getting? How many miles? How long did it sit?
