Default Poll for manual transmission

After reading the post about RedFX4 asking about switching to a manual transmittion, i thought i would see the results from a poll. I dont understand why the manual transmittion in a V8 1/2ton pickup became almost non existant. I know its pretty popular with the V6 single cabs but why not in the XLT and Lariat supercrews and extended cabs? I love manual transmittion and would have bought a XLT Supercrew with one if i could have. How many people here would have bought their V8 (4.6 or 5.4) with a manual trans if you had the opertunity to?

I wanted an auto because i live in the city and its so much easier driving with it. Also auto is better when i'm offroading because i can keep it more stable on steep hills with no lurching back LOL.

I would have loved a manual. I might not have gotten it in my Lariat, but if a manual were offered behind a V8, I might have gone with a 2wd reg cab short bed STX.

Ya it sucks that theres no more manual. However thoe, they will still offer a manual if you order right from the factory, but it might run ya extra.

It sucks that manuals are gradually going away. Its not just Ford trucks, its everything. I'd say in ten years you wont see any more new manual shift vehicles.
I wouldve gotten a manual if it was a decent one. Some of the newer manuals are crap compared to the older ones. I wouldve liked to buy a nice HD 5 speed with a granny gear.

While I voted yes on having a manual, it would have been for the better fuel mileage. If an automatic is maintained (many are ignored until they begin to experience faults), they can go over the 100K mark and more. I had mine flushed (properly), and have an aftermarket trans cooler. With my SCANGUAGE II installed, it provides me with instant transmission temps; in the HOT Texas summer, I have yet to see the transmission temps go over 153 degrees, at idle (down to 125 to 135 while driving).
As we all know, heat is the biggest failure for automatics, along with non fluid changes. If you tow, or bought the truck used and do not have proof of previous maintenance, get the fluid completely changed. If you don't have a factory transmission cooler, install one yourself. Takes about 45 minutes tops.

I looked for 6 months and could not find an ex-cab wit the 5.4 and manual trans. I must have looked at 500 trucks online and in person.

well the 5.4 does not come with a manual trans behind it. from 2004 non heritage to 2009 and probably for a while after. i was talking to a ford rep and he said that even the new 2009 and 2010 will not even have a manual trans option even if ordered straight from the factory. he said none of the 2009-10 center console trucks will have manual transmissions. crappy. this is why i want to do it.

i would of gotten a manual transmission. the automattic in my stx with the 4.6 is kinda sloppy compared to what a good manual would be like.

That sucks, we drive fords because we work with them, and they "usually" offer what we want. we dont just getting groceries with our trucks like toyota and chevy drivers.
