Also as info, have any of you guys with the rough idle pulled the codes on your trucks? I had that happen at one point and it was a bad injector. It DID NOT throw a check engine light but I pulled the codes with my Edge Evo and sure enough there it was. It was covered under warranty and I got a letter from ford that due to multiple injector problems they were extending the warranty on them to 125K IIRC. I'll have to look for the letter.
Wish the 's would do that on the cam phasers.
Does anyone have the part number for the phasers?

Before I replaced the VCT solenoid I changed the oil to 5w-20 full synthetic, that didn't change anything. I bought a pair of the solenoid from Tasca and got them yesterday. Installed both of them and it didn't make any difference. I still have the ticking noise. Annoying.

okay I bought gillespie85's VCT solenoids and tried them in my truck also performed ohm reading on mine and the ones I bought. Both sets reading in the 12 ohm range. Well wouldn't you know it gillespies85's did not solve the ticking so I am trying to sell them for the same amount that I paid for them $70.00 for both plus shipping! I thought it was worth trying heck Ford would have charged me that much just to look at the truck. Better than spending $300.00 for them from auto parts only to find out that wasn't the problem.

This sucks! How many miles did your trucks' have on them? Could it be that they simply weren't worn out or had previously been replaced? My truck has just shy of 180,000 on her and NOTHING had been changed. Hell, the shocks and struts were OEM!

phaser
I had the vct bank 2 changed and the next day the same code came in! There is no ticking in my engine and other than a rough Idle it works great! Thought it might be a faulty sensor so im getting it changed again! If the code comes back im not sure what I'll do, but this seems like a common problem with these trucks!

VCTs and phasers
I had the phaser and vct changed on the left bank Friday. The wife was driving the truck when it laid down on her. The shop found a bunch of misfire codes. They ran a compression test on the left bank and the cylinders were 45, 100, 70, and 110 psi. The tech went to retest the cylinders to varify his readings and every cylinder was reading 150 psi. So after thoughtful discussion with the mechanic and my financial advisor (my wife), we changed the the phaser and vct on the left bank. Everything was fine. Picked up the truck, drove it home and it started running rough at idle. It smoothed out a little when the accelerator was pressed slightly. We took it back to the shop and they found the right bank vct was failing. With an oil change and A/C recharge we will have $1900 in it and hoping that all is well that ends well. The tick is not as bad now as it was before it went to the shop. Hoping now all the ticking will be gone. I read in earlier posts of people having rough idle but no codes given. I ask my tech about it cause mine was the same way before the check engine light came on. The tech expalined that it would not light the light until it logs the same code 5 time or there is a solid failure.

phasers
Hello All- Been here before-left for a while-back again. Like others in this post I was looking for answers to the dreaded ticking. Mid march I bought a 2007 Lariat F150, it had a slight tick but not too bad. Last Saturday it was missing real bad shut it off and restarted it it was fine. Just wet I thought, it was a torrential down pour most of the afternoon. Went out Sunday morn was fine for 10 miles or so--then missing-not missing-missing... took it home and parked it,figured it was a bad coil pack or two. Called the dealer Monday dropped it off for Tuesday service. Did some research and learned about cam phasers- oil pressure- and what not. Dealer calls Tues-missing on 4 cylinders -not all at once- bouncing around. Says both phasers are bad-they changed phasers and solenoids and changed the oil. got it back together today and test drove it- sounds good/runs good, BUT when its completely warmed up has a slight tick that the lead mechanic didn't like-end result may be a new short block. The lead mechanic will talk to a Ford rep on Monday to see if it gets a new heart. At this point I think thats the way to go. Service manager told me there was a period of time-by dates-when a bad batch of motors were made, something to do with end play in the crankshaft-tolerance is .0025 mine is .0015 . too much end play lowers oil pressure to the phasers. So far I have nothing but good reviews for this dealer-they seem to be doing the right thing without any argument. I just didnt buy this truck to sit in their shop for 2 weeks. 2007 F150 5.4 w/36000 miles
