Default Plasti-Dipping Wheels

So what is the consensus out there on plasti-dipping wheels?
Currently I can't justify buying some XD's or Method Fat Fives in black. I was thinking of sending the OEMs for powdercoating to do in a dark gun metal instead of black. But I don't want to spend $500 on that either.

But I'm contemplating plasti-dipping in gun metal gray or black and putting their gloss coating on.

Will it last at all?
I've been doing some research and seen mixed things on it. I see a lot of guys doing rims on BMW's and such around the web that seem to like it a lot.

I was hoping some of the guys here had some experience with it. BTW, I don't off-road so it won't be seeing that type of usage and scrapes from brush or mud.

Give it a shot, if you dont like it you can take it off. From what I have read its pretty durable and should last.

I've had it for a few weeks and it seems great! Just make sure its not humid when you do it or in direct sunlight. I did my first 2 wheels in those conditions and had to peel it off and start over cuz it was crap. But its very easy and good looking!

I did mine about two months ago and it still looks pretty good. No pealing or anything. X2 on the humidity, it took forever for mine to get rid of the tacky feel. Make sure you put a solid 5-6 coats on, that will also help if you ever want to take it off.

It's pretty resilient stuff for sure. Watch some videos of people taking a pressure washer to it. It stays on for sure. You gotta really hit it at a sharp edge to see damage basically. My emblems have been done for months and they still look like new. I did some plastic on my dirtbike too and it looks sharp. Best of all, you can remove it easily if it does scratch. Or just repaint over it. It hides the imperfections pretty well. Even if you get some splatter while spraying, it will dry in a pretty even finish. Stuff is amazing so just do it and save for your new rims for when you need new tires too.

Would you guys mind posting some pics? Thanks for the advice, especially on the humidity. I'm in DFW and it has been really humid the last couple of weeks. I may have to wait for September for the heat and humidity to subside.

How many cans did it take for 5-6 coats?
Did you guys put the gloss on it afterwards?

What I did was clean the wheels real well with a power washer and then just wait til night time to plastic dip then in the garage. I just kept really well ventilation in there. And about 5 minutes before you plastidip them rub them down with rubbing alcohol really well. I'll post some pics of the finished product

I too used just 1 can per wheel. And also some painters tape for the tires cuz its a pain to peel the plastic dip off the tires.Plasti-Dipping Wheels-img_20130705_231455_490.jpg
