Pioneer Head unit install 06 f150
Just ordered a new pioneer head unit. I am expecting to get it sometime next week. I have a lariat so I have that wood trim around the radio. Does anyone know how to remove it.
I will post pics of the install when I finish.

I would assume it's the same way as removing the trim in my XLT, but not 100% sure. The way I removed my trim was to first remove the ashtray and then grab hold of the trim at the bottom and just give a good tug on it. There are something like 6 or 8 clips holding it in, feels like it's going to break, but if you do it correctly you'll be fine.

i put a double din in mine not too long ago. take a small screwdriver, cover it with a washcloth or something similar and but it inbetween the wood trim and the gray trim...i started at the bottom right. Pry it up one of the clips should pop out. Then go to the opposite side and do the same. Its stuck on pretty good just make sure to start at the bottom and work up and pull evenly from both sides. Then you have to unhook the backup thing, cig lighter, passenger air bag light ect.

ya do just as stated above, sometimes the clips will stay in the dash when you pop the panel. If they do just gently use a small screwdriver and pliers and remove them from their holes and reinstall on the face plate.
I just installed a kenwood dnx5120 a couple weeks ago and it came out great.. very easy install with a simple double din install kit and looks clean when done.. I almost went with the pioneer but went with the kenwood instead

Wiring
Thanks for the feedback. I'm a little concerned about the wiring, I got the wiring harness from crutchfield and the antenna adapter. Once I get the factory stereo out, is it a pretty easy install? Any pics would be great.
Thanks

crutchfield usually does pretty good. you're gonna lose your steering wheel controls with the new unit but it should turn out good. Youre gonna need a hex head screwdriver to get the old unit out of the dash. Its screwed in under the wood trim thing (it will make sense when you're looking at it). Then you just wire the new harness up (refer to your head unit manual vs your new wiring harness) Match the power to power, ground to ground, ect, ect. I use the little wireguards on mine, put them together...and twist. Its gonna be a bunch of different colors. But its pretty simple just be careful to get them matched correctly or it wont work. Crutchfield should have sent you a mounting kit for your dash. Basically slide the mounting bracket onto the unit, plug your harness end into the spot where the old one was (little gray box) and you're all go.
