Default Phaser Lockout Kit

quick question... when purchasing the kit, the sct tuner that you receive, once hooked up to my truck and tune entered, would it be "married" to my truck, or would I be able to use it on another truck to enter the lockout tune?

Married until you return the truck back to its stock tune.

Given that BOTH the Livernois kits and the 5Star kit stipulate a tune is a REQUIREMENT, I'd venture the answer is "NO".

no, the truck needs to be tuned in order to not have reliability issues after the lockout.

Depends.

If you has an SCT device, you could just buy the file from 5Star.

If you already had a MyCal from Livernois - same. ( Not sure if LMS sells an SCT-based file formatted lockout tune - need to ask 'em).

What device do you have?

currently I do not have a tuner, but I see used ones pretty cheap... thought if I could get the tune, buy a used tuner for a couple hundred dollars, then buy the lockouts for $50 or so, I'd save a few hundred dollars... just thinking out loud I guess...

Sounds reasonable. But - it Remains to be seen IF the file can be sold unbundled from a delivery device.

Lockuts and the tool are easy to buy.

You could call 5Star and/or Livernois and ask them this same Q.

Just FYI - their offering: http://5startuning.com/product/freed...-4-6l-5-4l-3v/

A Mycal is not as common as an SCT device.

Good luck

What "reliability issues" are supposed to be eliminated or mitigated by a tune, if the "reliability issues" arise from forcing cam timing to full advance and "locked" into that position? What can the tune do to mitigate issues after that?

Here is a guy who elected to forego the tune all together:
