Solo S2 here. No cords, just batteries. 2 AA's last several weeks for me. Love it.

I have had the Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar and Laser Detector and have never received a ticket. I only use it on long trips because there are too many speed traps in Austin, Texas to avoid. I previously owned a 350Z and I would take it above 100mph and still would not get a ticket while using the Passport. (Not promoting that kind of driving, especially in a f150) Could be luck or could be the Passport just has a wide range. I know if you're hit with LASER and you're the only driver on the road you will get a ticket. If there are others on the road you will have some warning but not much. Hope this helps.

I have used the Passport 8500 X50 in the past and loved it but stepped up to the 9500ix a few years ago. It is basically the same as the X50 but has built in GPS that will learn the false alarms on your normal routes and block them out after you drive past them 3 times. The range is great and I have not had a ticket in 19 years (some of that is due to the detectors and some is just luck). I now have a 9500ix in my F150 and one in my Suburban. I mounted the one in my Suburban using a Blendmount that attaches to the rearview mirror post and it provides a nice, clean look and gives it a better vantage point. The 9500's cost a bit more than the 8500 X50 but you can get some killer deals on the 8500s on ebay and other online retailers. You can't go wrong with either but I wouldn't waste my money on Cobra, Whistler, BEL, etc.

I have the Pass 8500 x50 too. I have it hardwired into the fuse box so it turns on and off automatically with the key, and it's mounted at the top of the windshield near the rear view mirror with the cord tucked into the headliner and trim.
