tried to listen to it on my phone and it's kind of difficult. the first time I listened to it, I was pretty confident it sounded like an exhaust leak but after listening a few more times, I'm not sure... will listen to it on my computer when I get home.

Thanks, the exhaust shop said injectors.

Those are some loud a** injectors in my opinion.

What is weird is that I hear that noise on cold start and same noise, just a little quieter going down the road, however, I do not hear it (that i can tell) when reving.

Mine has a leak on the passenger side as well and I think its a sign that maybe its just time to invest in some short tube headers

x40oz... I listened to that clip a few times on my laptop and "if" they are injectors, they are the loudest i've ever heard. to me (and it's hard from a video) it sounds like and exhaust leak but i could be wrong.

kccofox... skip the shorties and get long tubes. seems like shorties aren't going to give much of anything back to you in power

I agree with that being way too loud to be injectors.

Well as far as getting long tubes, what brand would you recommend?

I'm likely not the guy to ask because i'm not super interested in upgrading beyond stock exhaust manifolds (I am interested but it's expensive and a lot of work)... seams like pacestetter is a good budget option from what i see in these forums. I've heard mixed reviews on jba. but again i don't have long tubes, just have read all over the place that shorties end up being more eye candy and maybe add a little power in the higher rmps where long tubes add more torque and hp relatively speaking and you get some of that at lower rpms

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess for now I just have to deal with it. The exhaust shop says not a leak and ford wants another $100 for another diagnostic.

I am boarderline thinking some sort of slight timing issue. I was going to order edge evo and play with timing and idle a little.

with it quieting down after a few seconds to me either means it's more pronounced at a certain RPM because you truck idles a little higher on initial start up and then drops down kind of soon... then you likely don't often get to that rpm in a situation where you would hear it as much because other noises are drowning it out. or it's heat/expansion related in which case, I would think it's likely exhaust (and hoping it's exhaust)

if it's timing related (praying for you that it's not) I don't think it would fade from having the truck run for a little while but it's possible it could sound worse at a certain rpm like i mentioned above. I would not play with the timing with an edge if I had a strong suspicion it was timing related because I doubt it a programing issue and likely either timing chain slap, worn broken chain tensioners or cam phasers... I don't know this for a fact, just my gut feeling "if" it's timing related. what would be nice about the edge though is you can see if there are any trouble codes that aren't throwing a CEL. you really don't want to mess with much of the settings (there are exceptions like shift point or idle rpm) if you are questioning whether the motor is mechanically sound. that's not directly from my experience but from both edge's advice and the advice on here I've read from members that are way more knowledgeable than me and i think it makes pretty logical sense. good luck man I hope you track it down.

paying ford $100 to diagnose sucks but the dealers here normally put that towards the cost of the repair if you have them do the work. hopefully someone will listen to your vidoes and be able to give better advice.

Default How do i get to the bottom front manifold bolts

I decided to start tearing into my 04 Screw 5.4 since it started the dreaded exhaust ticking. Took out the inner fender well and I can see the back two ports just fine. The front two....what the flip????? Ive been reading on here about unbolting the motor mount and jacking, but still, even with a couple inches, will that even help? I can't see the front two bottom bolts no matter what angle I try to see them from. I removed the starter, but the same as the fender well in that I can only see the back two. I'm a little confused on the motor mount as well. On the very bottom I see a bigger bolt and then a smaller bolt in what looks like a slotted hole. Am I looking at the correct thing? Just doesn't seem to sound like anything else I've heard on here. I'm really surprised that of all issues with these trucks, there hasn't been a good write up with pictures. Just sucks that damn shock tower on the 04-08 is horribly in the way. These manifolds were turds since 97 and instead of fixing them, Ford had the stellar idea of packing more crap in the way of a problem they wouldn't admit was a problem. Do you guys go at this from the top somehow? I can't see them bottom front two no matter what angle I try.

Some pictures would help greatly!! Definitely curious how to unbolt the motor mount, pics of that would really help to.
