Don't mean to jack this thread, but on the subject about parking assist.......I need a new trailer tow harness part# 5L3Z-13A576-BA. After looking at my old harness, this is exactly what I have and need to replace, but I was told that if I have parking assist, not to get this one. Does the parking assist wiring tie into the trailer tow harness on and 05 f150 with trailer tow package?

Actually, I just noticed this thread is 4 years old, so I'll make a new thread.

This was a helpful thread. I had a similar issue to many - backup beep wouldn't work, Parking Assist OFF light was continuously on in the cab. I originally suspected a sensor, so I did the following: 1) ran codes, of which there were none, and 2) did the test where you put the truck in reverse and listen to the ticking at each sensor. All four were strong. So, it had to be either the speaker or the module. It's far more likely for the cheap little speaker to fail so I bought one on Amazon for $15. FYI - the speaker for an 04-08 F150 is attached to the module, under the driver side dash up above the parking brake. Look up under there and you'll see it. I found myself reading the wrong thread and went looking for the speaker under a body panel in the rear passenger side of the cab, to my surprise there was nothing there, then I went back and realized I was looking at the F350 thread or something. Oops, lol. In any case, the speaker has two small "clips" that hold it onto the module, as well as a piece of backing tape. I just unplugged it, used a small flathead screwdriver to pop the tape off the module and undo the clips, and replaced it with the new one. Fired her up, and the system is back to where it should be working great. Don't be a fool and let the dealer charge you hundreds of dollars...this cost $15 and couple hours of researching, plus about 10 minutes of fixing. Thanks to all who help out with these forums, you're saving me $thousands (literally).

Had this issue once. I always believe in starting simple and basic first, especially as pertaining to electrical.

Get some contact cleaner, or WD40 if no contact cleaner (it is non conductive for those who disagree, it is actually recommended for use with electrical for water proofing and corrosion resistance), sorry, had to say that b/c there always one on here who will seek out debate over irrelevant material.............

anyway, Unplug the sensors one at a time, inspect the wiring harness for damage or corrosion, spray, clean, spray, plug in and unplug a couple times just to ensure any build up may have a chance to break up and be removed, spray one more time maybe.....and plug back in.

Do it to all, see if it helps. Mine simply had worked itself loose. The wiring harness tab that secures it was weak due to age, I guess vibration, whatever eventually started making it separate, moisture infiltrates behind the connection, especially driving in the rain, corrosion, debris, whatever.

Cleaned it, got to the second one, it was obvious I found the problem due to how the plug was inserted (or not), and the build up on the terminals. Sprayed it, small wire brushed it, Works, no other issues, 5 years later.

Not saying this is or isn't the case for you. But, with all things electrical, always verify the connections are in tact and secure. If corrosion is present, the power wire may be hot, but no connection being made prevents it from working, one can easily mistake for a bad sensor.

I mess with electrical almost daily. See it all the time. I got a free air compressor and industrial shop fan TODAY that was being discarded. Cleaned contacts on compressor pressure switch, now have another compressor to work with. Shop fan, plug looked suspect, took off, wires frayed and loose, replaced plug, now have 400 dollar industrial shop fan to get in the way and blow my beer over when it's half full.

Point.......check the connections first, this is an area prone to impact from debris from the road and tires. You can look at the sensors and tell if their all sitting perpendicular and all appear to be at same angle. If one appears turned, start there (I'd still clean them all) as with the harness loose or off, they'll rotate a little more freely.

Turn your truck to on but don't start it. Put it in reverse and set the parking brake. Go put your ear by each of the sensors, very close to them, and the functional ones will make a ticking noise.
For the ones that don't function, check the wires first. Each sensor has 3 wires. A power, ground and a sensor. If you have a test light or something check the wires. If you have power and ground, it's the sensor.

If you are missing power like I was, follow the wires back, checking with a test light occasionally, mine was pinched on one of the bumper mounts and had split the wire, quick splice and I was back in business.
I did what you said and I put my vehicle in reverse and I hear the ticking from All 4 sensors what else can be the problem of having the Parkade always on off even in reverse and not hearing anything when backing up?? ??? ??? please help.

The Park Assist on my '08 was acting up, it would stay on for about three feet, and then shut off when I was backing up. Frustrated me to no end. Bought a hitch plug, Park Assist has worked flawlessly since.

From what I've read, the park assist was only available with the towing package (which made no sense to me), so I don't know if having a plug (or having something plugged into the wiring, since I bought a brakelight) is all it took. All I know is that I'm happy it works now!
