Painting Rear Axle & Gear Housing After Lift
Hey everybody, I am loving my lift kit in every way except the fact it shows the rear axle and gear housing and it is not the best looking thing I have ever seen. I have noticed a lot of trucks with the black paint on the axle and it makes a huge difference.
has anybody had any experience with this? I know if I go to a Ford body shop they are going to rape me and I won't trust it to just anybody. It doesn't need to be a high glass or anything, just a nice flat black would be great.
LMK!
Thanks

Repainted mine, just sand it (wire brush on a drill works good for around the bolts and stuff), prime it and paint it. It's a bit of a pain masking off the surrounding areas, but not a huge job. I used Black Satin as opposed to Flat or Gloss black. I personnely think it looks better. Don't have a pic to show and can't take one right now due to truck in shop getting a new paint job. Been on there for 3 years and still looks new.

if you want to do it right, get yourself some por15, the best paint you can buy for your chassis parts. not cheap, but you do it once and you'll never do it again.

ai used the POR15 also on my last 2 trucks.. it is light sensitive so you will want to top coat it with another paint..or it will turn chalky looking. otherwise the eastwood company has some good chassi paint.. spray bomb works but will need to do it every year

Very simple. A power washer, steel brush to get the loose stuff off and any can of flat black rust paint. I keep up with mine so it's even less work. I give it a quick touchup of paint every spring. Excuse the white stuff (salt) but I did that earlier this spring just after they had salted the roads again after a late season snow fall.
