They keep out the larger debris from getting clogged in the lower fender drain. This clogging can lead to your lower fenders rusting.

When you get a spare hour, crawl under one of the front fenders, remove the first three screws holding the wheel well to the lower fender, and pull out the pile of leaves and other junk....you'll be shocked as to how much gets in there; that with those end pieces intact. I cannot immagine how much more will be down ther if you leave them off.

All you guys who have painted it, what did you use to paint it? Plastidip? Krylon? Just need suggestions.
