Painting Chrome Bumpers Black
Hey guys I want to paint my bumpers black to continue on the blacked out theme of my truck. Being that they are chrome I wanted to know what you gusy are using for paint and how you are prepping them and taping them off. Any info would be great I am thinking flat black and I just want to do a good job because I wont want to do it again haha. thanks in advance for any help.

X's 2. Paint and chrome don't mix well. Generally a professional paint shop would put the chrome plated steel in a (-) charged bath which releases the chrome plating and leaves bare steel. From there the steel is prepped and painted. If you really want to paint your bumper without plastidip then I would find a factory painted bumper from a parts yard and prep and paint that.

The rear bumper on my 99 is chrome and I painted over that 2 years ago, I just sanded it down enough to give the primer something to hold onto. Used a lot of primer so I would have a nice thick base, I believe it was about 4 thick coats. I then topped that off with 3 coats of black, and finally 6 coats of clear. All rattle can rustoleum brand paint from autozone.
It is chipping around the hole for the spare time because I've dropped it about 4 times since I painted the bumper but the rest still looks great

Thanks for all the help guys I appreciate it. I think I'm gonna try to tackle them this weekend blooms like I'm probably going to mean towards the duplicator bed liner which sounds to be the most durable so far. Does anyone remember how many cans you needed for both front and rear for four coats?
