Default P1450 Error Code Excessive Fuel tank Vacuum

I had a P1450 fuel code pop up the other day.

The key symptom of this is that the truck had a hard time starting after filling the tank.

I believe this has something to do with a solenoid on the vent line. Does anyone have experience with this?

P1450 - Unable to Bleed Up Fuel Tank Vacuum

Description: Monitors the fuel vapor vacuum and pressure in the fuel tank. System failure occurs when the EVAP running loss monitor detects excessive fuel tank vacuum with the engine running (but not at idle). Possible Causes:
  • Blockages or kinks in the EVAP canister tube or EVAP canister purge outlet tube (between the fuel tank, EVAP the canister purge valve and the EVAP canister)
  • Fuel filler cap stuck closed (no vacuum relief)
  • Contaminated fuel vapor elbow on the EVAP canister
  • Restricted EVAP canister
  • CV solenoid stuck open (partially or fully)
  • Plugged CV solenoid filter
  • EVAP canister purge valve stuck open
  • VREF circuit open (harness near the fuel tank pressure [FTP] sensor, the FTP sensor or the powertrain control module [PCM])
  • Damaged FTP sensor
Diagnostic Aids: Visually inspect the EVAP canister inlet port, CV solenoid filter, and canister vent hose assembly for contamination or debris.
Check EVAP canister purge valve for vacuum leak.

I dug into this further last night and removed the entire EVAP canister, solenoid, etc.

-All hoses looked good ( clear of kinks and dirt)
-Solenoid worked properly (used a 9v battery with alligator clips to make sure that it actuated properly.

There seems to be a "prefilter" which is a smaller rectangle box which sits on the drivers side of the evap assembly on the very top.

Mine was completely filled with dirt. I blew it out with an air hose. A ton of stuff came out.

The evap canister itself was also very dirty on the inside. I blew this out in both directions.

So far it worked. I filled up the truck with gas today and the truck did not hesistate to start. Every time I cranked the truck after buying gas, it would struggle to get fuel, but it seems okay now.

If anyone else is having this problem, I would start by blowing everything out and checking all hoses.

I am having the same exact problem you had, everytime I put fuel in my truck hesitates to start and only when the tank is over 3/4 full It will throw the p1450 code. I have a 2008 f150 with 5.4 flex fuel engine. Can you maybe shoot a pic or explain better where the evap canister is so I can inspect mine? I suspect that that filter is probably clogged on mine as well. But the dealership said that the valve solenoid was stuck closed or open cant remember which.

Default 2008 p1450

I have this code and replaced the fuel cap but code came back 3 days later. The truck is running just fine with no other symptoms except I notice pressure releasing when I remove the fuel cap.

I have a p 1450 code that keeps coming back . 2008 F 150 with 5.4 runs fine except it seems to be burning fuel faster. I have replaced the fuel cap and replaced the vapor canister purge valve on the fire wall . Popped the code again this morning . What do I try next ? I also went to fill the tank 3 days ago and the gas pump kept shutting off . Not sure if this was the pump or a symptom ?

Default seems to me a lot of this stuff is up near the rear axle

I would say inspect all this for dirt clogs as the purge system must not be working. the gas cap seals this system up I doubt it is the problem .There should not be a pressure release when removing cap . This system should be trying to pull fumes off and reburn them or clean them thru carbon canister before releasing pressure.

Default evap canister solenoid won't release

I have a P1450 code. The evap canister solenoid opens and closes when power is applied and removed. When the solenoid is closed it holds good vaccum but when power is removed it does not release the vacuum. Is that normal or is the my problem?

Thanks!
