Default P1000 code, misfiring, etc.

Been having some issues with my '06 KR F-150.

Had a random misfire on cylinder #7 a week or so ago. All plugs were changed at the beginning of October.

Only happened on two occasions and it went away.

This week I had a cylinder #4 misfire and a misfire at start up. The CEL came on my dash and I used my Edge to read the code. Running really rough.

Cleared the codes (I don't know why, out of habit I guess). And then I got the P1000 code. It's not using any Edge tunes, just on stock setting.

P1000 was not going away and not showing any other codes even though it was misfiring like crazy.

Took it to Advance to run codes. Got nothing. Not even the P1000. No CEL was on though.

Switched it to the "Trans" tune. P1000 went away. No misfire on my way to work this morning. No CEL. Misfired slightly on my way home. Still no CEL.

Switched to back to "stock". P1000 code again. No misfire codes, but misfiring. No CEL on the dash.

Any ideas? Ordered a couple new coils and plugs to have on hand. Was hoping to switch cylinder 4 and 7 coils with 5 and 8 so I can see if the misfire moved too, but hard to do when I am not getting any codes on the dash or Edge (besides P1000 when on "stock).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a coil problem. Cel won't come on unless the misfire happens consecutively. I know it's frustrating finding intermittent problems, so much easier if it misfired all the time. sorry can't help much.

Well I replaced the coil today on cylinder 7. We'll see if any misfire pops up. I was getting a misfire cylinder 7 code earlier today, but nothing as I drove around after replacing it.

Having a similar issue, except mine is cylinder 5. Replaced the plug then it threw a lean code on bank 2, cleaned the MAF and the lean code disappeared. Then the p1000 showed up but it only stays on until I start the truck which still has an intermittent misfire

I'm guessing you have a programmer correct? The P1000 code is an unidentified programmer or glitch in the OBDII system and it doesn't recognize the reader. Once you set it to a tune that code will go away.

The P1000 is just saying that the OBD monitors haven't completed their testing cycle. You would get this from disconnecting the battery or from switching tunes probably. Nothing to worry about that, it will go away once you have completed the required drive cycles.
What kind of plugs did you use?
You can try just unplugging one coil at a time and see if that changes how it's running. If you unplug one and nothing changes then you may have found the culprit.

I had the same issue lately. I contacted superchips and they said it was fairly common that I needed to hook my cortex back up and reinstall the tune.

Using Motorcraft plugs, SP-493 the single platinum.

I am using an edge and have tried returning it to stock following the evo procedures (turn key to on do not start, etc.)

Haven't tried swapping or unplugging coils yet, on the road for work and it's cold in the hotel parking lot. Thanks for the tip Kev, I'll have to try that.

Problems fixed, turned out to be the #5 coil. Running beautifully again.
