Above the spare tire mount there's a little aluminum box, otherwise known as the Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM). It controls the fuel pump, and they tend to rot out. I'd start there.

A lot of the time, looking at the FPDM will tell you if it's faulty. They are made of aluminum and plastic. The aluminum part is in contact with the steel of the frame. This causes major corrosion. Drop the spare tire down, and take the FPDM off. If it is corroded badly, it's time to replace. A lot of people even report theirs crumbling in their hands, being split open, and the circuitry being exposed.

Look at it, tkae it down, it's only 2 10mm bolts (IIRC).

Chances are it's going to frag in the process of removing it, and it'll look like DAKs FPDM.

If it isn't NIB condition, replace it. Rock Auto or Amazon have the best prices on them.

thanks for the help.as stated no need to test.the back side had holes in it.replaced, seemed to fix the problem.Im just glad I did some research instead of listening to advance auto. They wanted to sell me a fuel rail pressure sensor, since that was what the code said. Thanks again.
