OverCharging alternator

I had this same exact problem going on a month/month and a half ago or so when it was bitter cold here for a few days running. No codes were being thrown but that gauge on the dash would spike up to 3/4 of the way and stay on for different lengths of time and then go off. Strangely enough it only seemed to happen when the truck was headed directly into the wind. I had a new battery and alternator installed late last summer by a Ford dealership. Since the first of the year it hasn't happened since. Never did get it figured out and I sure as heck didn't want to take it to the dealership when it wasnt' throwing any codes. Like I said, I never did get it figured and it hasnt' happened since last mid December or so.

Ok so I have had the same problem 2004 F150. Overcharges have gone through 2 batteries and have replaced and or checked all grounds and 2 alternators. seems to happen when it is cold and make the same noise as described previously. Overcharge light comes on and have voltage tested it at 18 volts at most seems to drop again for no reason. Then today the light stays on and I have to turn off then restart and fine.... help!! Driving me nuts
