Default over drive issues 2006 f-150

I have a 2006 f-150 xl that I purchased new in july of 06. This truck now has 142,000 miles on it and last march I was driving home from work when the truck wouldn't shift correctly. This truck as an automatic transmission. I was going about 35 miles an hour and it wouldn't go any faster. I turned off the over drive and the truck drove fine and still drives fine as long as I push the button to turn the over drive off. I have let the truck sit since last spring debating on putting a new transmission into is since the shop that I took it to the day this happened told me I needed one. I am asking if there are any other ideas out there before I just junk this thing and move on.

Thank you

When was the last time it had a tune up? A misfire can feel like the transmission is crapping out, especially in the 35-50 mph range.

He mentioned it drives fine with the overdrive off; don't see the cost of a tune up correcting this one.

Get a second opinion on the transmissions health.

I know for me and several people, when I had a misfire due to fouled plugs, turning off overdrive made the truck run better.

I understand this.
I'm just saying not to rule out a misfire situation because turning off overdrive makes the truck run better. There are countless examples of people who had misfires, and think it's the transmission crapping the bed. Turning off overdrive almost always helps.
Is there something else I'm missing here?

Hey Everyone, first time here and I really need some help. I have a 2006 F150 5.4 i replaced the plugs and coils I bought off amazon. I installed the coils and plugs no , when to start my truck and it misfired so bad it set off about 20 codes on the check engine light.

I cleared them and the code that kept coming up are the coil on plug P0351, p0352, p0353, p0355, p0356, p0357 Can anyone confirm these are internal codes from the pcm meaning the pcm is fried ?

I failed to disconnect the battery when I disconnected the pcm to get at the #4 cylinder and re installed the pcm with battery connected.. could that have fried the coils and or pcm

I had someone tell me the coils were bad and fried the pcm,,, I can not find any vacuum lines that are disconnected. I ordered a new pcm (have not installed it yet, I have reinstalled the old coils just in case.. Any idea what went wrong ? How to fix?

Good news, bad news is welcome ! Just need to get it fixed ...

Thanks
