Default Ok, tell me what I'm doing wrong...

I'm a complete noob at this stuff, so be easy on me. I installed my head unit and everything went smoothly. I then did some research to figure out how to run the wires for the backup Camera. I removed the driver side kick panel and pulled up the sill on the drivers side to uncover the large gromet going to the bottom of the truck, where I ran the reverse sensor wire and aux cable to the rear bumper. I have 2 trailer hook ups. One is the 4 pin and the other is the bigger one. I pulled back the wire loom on the big one and uncovered the black with pink stripe wire (reverse) and the solid orange wire (power).

This is probably where I screwed up. Not sure what I was thinking, but I cut the black and pink wire, and the orange wire, then I cut 2 small pieces of 16 guage speaker wire to make extensions and twisted them to both ends of the black/pink wire & orange wire. I then skinned back the speaker wire extensions in the middle of the wire, and twisted on the reverse sensor wire from the head unit and the red wire from the camera. I then added another extension wire from the speaker wire to the black wire of the camera and grounded it to a bolt on the frame of the truck.

And wouldn't ya know, the shiz didn't work. Does anyone have any idea what went wrong, how to fix it? I swear this backup camera has been the biggest PITA!!

And yes I know there is a wire I can tap into at the driver side kick panel, but can you imagine what I would've done idbi tried to tap into that huge bundle of wires. Good grief! Lol, doesn't look like I'll be a master electrician anytime soon!

give me you truck specs. ill look it up on mitchell to make sure you have the right wires.

all you really needed to do was cut some of the coating off the factory wires and wrap the new wires around the proper wire. then tap it good. would be best to solder it cause its an outside connection.

2006 F150 Fx4 Scab...... I realized I could've just skinned the black/pink wire and orange wire like I did the speaker wire. I'm a freakin' idiot!

Thank you so much for your help... I've spent way too much time trying to figure this out. Shouldve been an hour long install, and it's turned into a couple of days, lol.

The camera is the Koolertron camera from Amazon, for $15

lol its all good man. i always try to keep wire intact if i can and just strip the wire coating off.

can you either give me the model of the camera you are using or give me a list of the wires on the system and what they are labeled as.
