Oil Weight Updates
I searched and read a dozen threads regarding oil weight and valve train noise.
I heard of many cases where people used a heavier oil with great results in reducing this noise, while many others were certain that using anything other than the recommended oil would eventually lead to engine ruin.
Those threads are a couple of years old now, and I was wondering if I could get an update from anybody who's been using a heavier oil for a while now. How many miles have you ran with heavy oil? Have you noticed any changes? Is your noise still gone? How's your gas mileage?

I've ran 5w-30 for over 50,000 miles in my 2007 5.4 with no engine problems. It occasionally will use an extra quart in 7500miles, but runs a lot quieter. Royal Purple btw

I just put 5w-30 in yesterday for the first time and with in seconds i could tell how much quieter the engine ran. It also seemed to run smoother than it did before. Only time will tell how it does.

Same here. Between that and a sea foam treatment, I can barely hear anything, except for the diesel sound, which is also much quieter than before.
