Default oil pressure drops at idle

I have an 2005 F150 with the 4.6 and 4x4 if that makes a difference about 4 out of 10 times when the truck is idling the oil pressure gauge drops and the computer sais "check gauges". Whenever the pressure drops if you slide the truck into neutral increase the Rpm's the pressure go's back to normal, the weird part is the truck runs fine when it drops it doesnt stall out or make weird sounds or anything, Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

maybe the oil pressure switch is going bad. check that. its just a switch, ot a real sensor. also check your alternator for free in the discount auto parts store, maybe is going bad. when it does, it creates a lot of ghost problems in the electrical system

Did you get your oil changed recently?
Consider changing your oil filter, with a Motorcraft.
Could be just that simple.

that is a good point... a bad filter with no right back pressure could create a problem like that as well. avoid fram...

Oil pumps usually don't go out, although the spring might be weak.
The oil filter has a bypass also, to increase oil flow during high rpm.
It only makes sense then that if the oil is bypassing the filtration system the oil pressure would be low when the RPM is low.
That makes the filter the easiest and cheapest thing to try first.
Then the oil sending unit.
Lets not give the worst case scenario, even though that could be the final step.

I would hook up a manual gauge to the motor. Stock Ford gauges aren't that reliable. Then go from there

new filter is the cheapest step in the diagnosis process, id do that first. if the problem remains, id hit the junk yard and look for a new pressure sender and swap it in. if the problem is still there, id be worried
