Oil Filter corroded?
Probably a dumb question, but I had never changed the oil on my vehicles myself until last week. Why I waited so long to just do it myself is beyond me as it was easy and simple (besides the ***hole who over-torqued the filter by at least a full turn). My question is more of a curiosity. The filter I pulled off was rusted and corroded on top where the seal is... is that normal? Guy I bought it from claimed the oil had been changed "recently"... just curious if he was full of it.

Were his eyes brown???
No, not normal but could be caused from all the sodium chloride and rock salt they put on our Northern ad Eastern roads in the winters.
