My '07 5.4 with, very close to, 100k miles burns oil between changes as well....truck is mainly driven from stop light to stop light in the city with an aggressive foot to go along with it.
Other than the typical 5.4 noises, and a slight rough idle, the truck "****s it and gets it" with my tune from mpt.

1qt to 1000mi has pretty much been an industry standard for warranty work for as long as I can remember. You'll get no sympathy till it's burning 1qt/1000.

Years ago Dad's neighbor bought a new 3/4T Dodge with a 440 in it. Thing hung a rod out the side of the motor with like 62mi on it. First thing out of the service managers mouth was "you didn't check the oil".
Ya dummy, it had SIXTY TWO miles on it since it left here brand new, WHO didn't check the oil??(was full btw).

Default oil filter and consumption

I can handle different engines having characteristics that cause them to use varying amounts of oil. Even different oil viscosity.

What I can't figure out is why changing the make of oil filters would cause a change in oil consumption.
