Default Oil Change Question

How bad is it if I haven't gotten my oil changed on my 2006 f-150 xlt in 8000 miles? I usually forget to get my oil changed on any vehicle for around 5000 miles; is that ok? Basically what I am asking is: is it ok to only get an oil change every 5000-7500 miles? Or should I do what everyone says and get it changed every 3000 miles? It seems like a bit of a waste to change it every 3000 miles, am I right in thinking that? I am sorry if this has been posted before, i'm still pretty new to these forums so please don't get mad if it has.

Change your oil every 3k I work at an auto shop and believe me..I see people run oil 5...8..10k before changing it and I'll tell you it's not very pretty. So advice from me. Keep your investment clean clean oil is good oil.

It's the part number of the filter you need to use. If you forget that badly then you should go full synthetic as it increases your oil change intervals. Is it bad? Depends how long you want your engine to last

If you run Amsoil then its not a bad thing, but if you don't I cant speek for that. I go 10k between changes but check my fluids weekly.

Hogwash, 3k mile oil changes with today's oil is way overkill. I go 7500k between oil changes on all my vehicles using full synthetic and never had a problem in over 200,000 miles on one and 192,000 on the other.

They say you can push it to 5-6K if you're using full synthetic motoroil, but I never take the chance. Especially if your truck has heavy miles on it already. Tritonbullet above is right on the mark, unless you can't for some reason you should change it every 3k miles. Again, just my opinion and experience with heavy mileage vehicles, but everyone has their own thoughts on this topic.

I'll be changing the oil this weekend. It will be 10k miles since the last time I changed it. Used Pennzoil Platinum and top of the line Fram filter.
I'll send a sample out to get analyzed from Blackstone labs.
