Default oil change question

I just bought a 2007 F150 Fx4 with a little over 19k miles last week. I dont know when the oil was changed last so I plan on changing it today. I was wondering if I should go synthetic or conventional oil? Any advice?

I just use 5w30 and change it every 3000 miles. I am still not sold on going 5000 miles although I saw a article online about oil changes but havn't read it yet. I guess you can't teach a old dog new tricks unless blindfolded. Ha Ha

well if you go with the Motorcraft it is a Synthetic blend, and if you use anything besides the 5w20 grade it ask for, ford will not honor your warranty if you have an engine problem. I use Royal Purple in my 08 FX4

Perform a search on this subject. Read the hundreds of testimonials. Then decide based on your driving habits, towing/no towing, and your disipline (will you change it often or not).

It's been covered for you.

I went to WallyWorld and bought a couple of jugs of 5W20 full synthetic and a filter. For a couple bucks more, you may as well go full synth. just for any benefit it may offer.
As mentioned before, Motorcraft 5W20 oil usually installed at the dealer is a blend.

I use Full Synthetic in my 2007 STX 4X4. im at 17,000 miles now and have absolutly no issues. i change my oil every 5,000 miles without any engine disturbance. Just make sure you use the 5w20 for warranty issues

Ya know, I can understand if you run your truck hard, tow 10,000 pounds, etc. using high dollar oil and changing it every other day. What I am wondering is for folks that seem otherwise rational, talk about using Ford's 5-20 blend and their filter from WalMart, and otherwise seem to take the oil conversation down a normal path but still say change it every 3000 miles or every 5000 miles while Ford says every 7500 miles. Why? Are we assuming that Ford wants the engine to fail or otherwise has some reason to recommend that we keep the oil in too long? Maybe the assumption is that they are making environmental points by being able to say they use less oil than before? For some reason people who seem to know a lot about these trucks and engines seem to think that the recommended oil change interval is too long. Can someone tell we why? I admit that at 52 years old I have been sold on the "3 months, 3,000 miles" marketed by the quick oil change places. Being "old" I find it tough to go 5,000 miles, let alone 7,500 miles between changes. However the rational side of me knows Ford isn't saying 7,500 miles just so that they can replace engines under warrenty - they must think it is the right thing and probably have massive studies to prove it. On the other hand, I had my first change done by the dealership at about 3,500 miles and sure enough the windshield sticker that Ford put in tells me that I should get it changed again at 6,500 miles - there's that 3,000 mile interval from the folks making money on changing oil
