Yea, same price here 5qts $17. Add 2 more qts at $4 each, plus oil filter $5 $30.00+ tax = $32.00

Not to hijack the thread, but ToughFX4's post reminded me of a mailing I got from my local ford dealer the other day. They were advertising 'Penzoil Savings Days', with options including Penzoil Ultra, Platinum, and Gold Synthetic blend. This made me wonder...how do you know what kind of oil a dealer uses? I had always assumed that when you take your Ford to a Ford dealer, it would get Motorcraft oil. After receiving this mailing, I'm not so sure anymore. While Penzoil is a fine oil, what's to stop them from using some cheap bulk oil?

I buy two 5qt jugs at a time and keep some empty single quarts to measure. My wife's Honda, sisters' Honda and Nissan, and ofcourse my dad's 07 f150 take 5w20 also, so the open containers never sit for very long.

I was about to change mine myself but time and knowledge of the truck are holding me back at the moment so I was panning to have Jiffy Lube do it. The one I go to seems pretty good and run by a real mechanic.

Just got my truck last week, and realized they put some sort of blended Valvoline in it. I am not a Valvoline fan so I want to change it to Mobil 1 5w-20, because I run everything on Mobil 1. However after a bunch of reading I am wondering if I should use Motorcraft. This would require me to learn how to do the oil myself, I plan to anyway, just sooner than expected.

I guess the question is Motorcraft or Mobil 1?
What is wrong with Valvoline? That's allI use Valvoline High Mileage Synthetic Blend, I used it in my previous truck which was a 2000 Chevy Silverado not just the engine but also transmission and differentials. I sold the truck four months ago with 275,000 miles on it on the original engine and transmission no rebuilds. Now I'm using it for my 2004 F150 5.4 currently at 120,000 miles also did the transmission a couple of weeks ago. The hype about Mobil 1 full synthetic is just that, a hype...

My issue with Valvoline steams from there customer service more then there actual product. I should have been more clear.

What happened is I had an engine seize up running Valvoline, may or may not have been the oil but they refused to even investigate despite there supposed guarantee they printed on every bottle. This was a long time ago, but I'm bitter.

Unless a business specifically advertises/tells you what they are using I would assume they are using a cheap bulk oil.....that's how a business makes $$, by keeping costs down

If they investigated every claim they got about oil they would be out of business. Every engine that failed using Valvoline would want a piece of that pie.
I'd bet there is no guarantee on their bottles anymore, although I could be spreading false information since I have never checked....

I think Valvoline makes you sign up for it these days, but most if not all of the oil companies have some sort of guarantee/warranty you can exercise if you look into it.

Look here at Mobil 1's http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/..._Warranty.aspx
