Franken-Axle: 8.8 w/ bearings and seals for 9.75
2004 SCAB XLT Flareside, 194K miles
I replaced my rear wheel seals today. My axle tag reads: V832G 55 88 4E13 and the axle code is 19, all consistent with an 8.8 3.55 open differential. I had a set of axle seals for an 8.8 on hand, but lo and behold: they're too small. I discover this at 5 pm while my truck is up on jack stands on the street in front of my house. Luckily, I still had an hour to get to the parts store and even luckier that they had two of the seals I needed: Part#100357 listed for the 9.75 or 10.5 ring gear.
I've heard of 9.75 axles with 8.8 bearings and seals for 97-99. Anybody ever heard of an 8.8 rear axle with 9.75 wheel bearings and seals?
