Default Oem vs aftermarket body part?

I need to get a new front fender. It doesn't need to last 20 years, but I'd like it to hold up for the couple more years I keep the truck.

Aftermarket are $115 shipped. Oem are a lot more.

Is there a difference in metal thickness?

Either way, I was going to have it professionally painted and also bedline the backside of it.

It's only $220 for an OEM: https://goo.gl/dYsX2H

The quality of the steel may be lacking (I mean, without melting it down and analyzing who can tell?), although the one's I've dealt with were not thinner. The problem with aftermarket is generally fit. It varies, depending on the batch and the source. I've seen decent ones and I've seen terrible ones.

If you're comfortable with "rolling the dice" to save $100, by all means go for it, but personally I'd go OEM.

I've seen people spend more on the aftermarket part, after you include the cost of fitting the part, than they would have if they had just gone with OEM.

The only $100 more for oem seemed great. Until I put in in my cart from tasks parts. Shipping is $180.00 extra!

Spoke with the aftermarket company and the sheet metal used is thinner than oem. So I won't be using that.

Now to find a new one locally I guess.

Oh damn I didn't see that... that's ridiculous! My bad

Try seeing if your local dealer will match or come close. Since it should come from a nearby warehouse with all their other stuff, there shouldn't be any shipping costs associated with it... although you'd be responsible for sales tax if applicable.

Seems they are over $300 normally. I'm going to try to get a better deal, but I don't know that my local dealer will want to match.

And yeah, Tascas shipping is insane! Costs almost as much as the part!

Hey, here's an OEM for 213.81 and only 25.66 shipping. Check the part as I didn't know if it was left or right, so the part # may differ. There's a compatibility chart in the link:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/1524324...&ul_noapp=true

Hope that helps!

Thanks for looking. I need 6L3Z-16005-A. 06-08 without the factory flares. I think I found one!
