Factory size is 275/55/20 with Pirelli Scorpion ATRs. god awful tire for rain/snow.

Don't mean to take the thread off on a tangent but as long as we are still talking 20" tires...

I've always equipped our vehicles with winter specific tires; the Scorpion ATRs on our new FX4 don't look to my eye that they'll cut it in the winter for us, even here in the relatively mild west coast of Canada.

There seem to be plenty of Scorpion 275/55/20's, many like-new, on Craigslist locally and they don't seem to be moving even at $200 a tire for new ones. I doubt I'll be able to sell them for much so my thinking is I should run the stock tires late spring and summer and winter specific wheels/tires in the late fall (very wet here) and winter until ski season is done for the family.

Any suggestions for an alternative 20" winter specific (rather than all season A/T) tire?

(Completely off thread topic... if anyone has thoughts on whether should I move to 18" rims for the winter I'm all ears, thanks.)

Yep...I wouldnt suggest rocking them in the winter...I did it once and even on brand new ones it was pretty bad...that was in slushy snow too. In deep snow...up to 2ft, but im guessing more as well, they are useless.
You can run them in the summer without much problems...I had problems with rainy surfaces too...gotta be easy on the throttle from a start or going around a corner and giving it gas...otherwise you will be doing some intense drifting whether you want to or not..haha

So far they're doing well with 8k, and I haven't had any problems with them. I drive around 50 miles a day depending on what I'm doing at work. Most of my driving is around town and it stays between 25-50, and my edge usually reads right at 15mpg. I'm not sure if that's even close to the actual mpg or not, but I haven't cared enough to figure it up manually.

I have an 08 lariat with the 5.4 and 3.73 on stock 20's.I have been considering 35x12.5s and was wondering how bad this effected the performance?I don't care about fuel mileage so much but does it struggle to pull loads or hills? How bad did it effect your acceleration as far as passing goes??

I haven't noticed that big of a difference, but it's been tuned too. It doesn't struggle at all on passing, and does just fine on hills. I go up a mountain daily as I go to work(unsure of grade - somewhat steep) and it pulls it just fine. I don't really tow much other than a race car on a 16' dovetail, and a couple atvs/bikes. I'm unsure of the trailer weight, but the car is 3150# and I've had no problems so far. When I had the edge it would usually read right around 15mpg, not sure how close to actual mpg that is though. I haven't been too concerned about calculating mpg since it's been tuned, but it definitely feels better all around. Mine is also 5.4 with 3.73
