well, half the time when i do try to read my manual is when i'm in no way to be grasping their wordings. i work overnight shift at walmart as a stocker and when i get off i feel like a zombie, even when i wake up later. and on my days off i party so idk. i do plan on reading it as well as other books. i had a 1990 f150 that i did repairs on myself so i'm getting somewhere.

as to the racing, we don't do it on an actual racing circuit but where i live there is a place for 'illegal' racing. it's hard to explain but no one is hurt unless the driver does something stupid [obviously].

and now i know to turn the o/d off next time lol. and is it best to just keep it in D or do the first two shifts myself?

Thanks for the heads up. I know now to stay far away from El Paso; there is no such thing as legal "illegal" street racing. I cannot offer any additional advice on how to shift your truck for such nonsense.

One of the smartest things I've read on any forum.

In normal driving conditions the vehicle should be left in the O/D position. You should only turn the O/D off when the transmission hunts for the correct gear.

Turning off the O/D lowers your fuel economy since your basicaly not allowing the transmission to do what it's programed to do (shift into it's highest gear) which in turns causes the engine to rev higher using more gas then it might normaly use.

Much like a manual transmission you only hold a certain gear when you might need the power offered from the lower gear.

hummmm I guess if you dont you have 37s like myself I would ponder that, otherwise thats what give me my good gas mileage. With the O/D on I need to stomp on it to get it rolling, hints that uses alot more gas having my RPMs go to 5-6K or more vise 4-4.5K but its ok man. Lot of stop lights in my area.

You are quite right. Working nights at Walmart as a stocker has got to be stressful. Nothing like a good illegal "legal" street race to relieve the built up stress.

My last comment about all this; no one here is taking any jabs at you, at least not intentionally. My only concern is your comments on the street racing (more now that you mention your stressed). Driving is not a good idea when your stressed, and street racing is never a good idea, period. May I suggest a visit to the doctor? I do not know your age (but I'm guessing you are young). At any age, stress is not a good thing. It ages you quickly, and is dangerous to your health. If it is at the point that it effects your "comprehending sentences", then you are in a danger zone with it now. Get some medical attention.

By the way, you must be reading these responses after the stress level is down, as you are understanding what we are talking about. Good job. Use this same time to read a good book or two (such as something auto related, as you have an interest in that). Your stress level will decrease too; that will be a good thing.

My last point. I checked with my friend (a Dallas Police officer). There is no such thing as legal street racing. I believe him. He also has a stressful job. He too works a night shift twice a month. Nice guy. Loves the Cowboys. I'm guessing he's stressed with their recent streak of bad luck.

Try a good movie or book. That's much better for your health. Keep the street racing for the idiots. You don't sound like an idiot. You appear to be a good person.
