Default Nut Question

Get your mind out of the gutter, it's not what you think, lol.

I replaced my passenger side IWE today. I used a new wheel end nut and tie rod end nut but when it came to installing the new upper ball joint nut, I could barely get it started. And before the threads could even contact the nylon it was hard to turn using even my 17" breaker bar. So I backed it off, and tried the old one. It was difficult too, but nowhere near like the new one. Could the studs on the ball joint be messed up? Am I ok re-using the old one for now? I torqued it to spec.
